How PINYA uses AI to help you plan better trips.

PINYA uses artificial intelligence to power travel recommendations, itinerary generation, and conversational assistance. We believe in being transparent about how AI works in our platform, what data it accesses, and what limitations it has. This page provides detailed information about our AI implementation to help you make informed decisions about using AI features.
1. AI Models We Use
Claude Sonnet (Anthropic)
Powers the PINYA chatbot that helps you research destinations, get travel advice, and answer questions. This model has access to web search capabilities to provide current information about destinations, weather, events, and travel conditions. The chat assistant is used every time you interact with the floating chat widget on the site.
Claude Haiku (Anthropic)
Generates personalized multi-day travel itineraries based on your destination, dates, budget, and travel preferences. This smaller, faster model is optimized for producing structured output like day-by-day plans with activities, dining recommendations, and practical tips. This model is used when you click "Generate Itinerary" on the planning page.
2. What Data AI Receives
Chat Assistant Data
The Chat Assistant receives your chat messages in the current conversation, conversation history within the session for context, your travel preferences if you have chosen to share them via "Load My Preferences", and a system prompt defining the assistant's role as a travel advisor. The chat assistant does not receive your email, account ID, or payment information.
Itinerary Generator Data
The Itinerary Generator receives the destination, dates, and budget you entered, the number of travelers, your travel style preferences if loaded from your profile, and any special requirements or notes you provided. It does not receive any personally identifying information.
Data AI Does Not Receive
Neither AI model receives your email address or Google account ID, your payment information or subscription details, your profile picture or personal photos, data from other users, or your browsing history outside of PINYA. We send only the minimum data necessary to generate useful responses.
3. Our Commitments
No Training on Your Data
Anthropic does not use API inputs to train their models. Your conversations and travel plans are never used to train AI.
Transparent Processing
We tell you exactly when AI is generating content. AI-generated itineraries are clearly labeled as AI-created.
No Permanent Storage
Chat sessions expire after 30 minutes of inactivity. We don't permanently store your AI conversations.
Minimal Data Sharing
We send only the data needed for the AI response. No extra personal information is included.
4. AI Limitations
It is important to understand what AI can and cannot do. AI can make mistakes and itineraries may include incorrect details such as wrong opening hours, outdated prices, or restaurants that have closed, so you should always verify important details independently before making travel arrangements. AI is not a travel agent and cannot book flights, hotels, or any travel services; it provides planning assistance only. AI information may be outdated, and while the chat assistant has web search access, it may not always have the most current information about visa requirements, safety conditions, or local regulations. AI cannot guarantee safety, and safety scores and travel advisories are informational only; you should always check official government travel advisories such as the US State Department or UK FCO before traveling. AI recommendations are not endorsements, and mentions of specific businesses, hotels, or restaurants are not paid placements or endorsements by PINYA.
5. Rate Limits
To ensure fair usage and manage costs, we implement rate limits on AI features. Chat messages are limited to 20 per minute. Itinerary generation limits vary based on your subscription tier, with free users receiving 2 generations per month, Premium users receiving 30 per month, and Platinum users having unlimited generations. These limits help us provide reliable service to all users while managing the costs of AI API usage.
6. Your Control
You are always in control of your AI experience. You can opt out of AI features entirely and use PINYA's planning tools without ever using the AI chatbot or itinerary generator. You can choose what to share with AI by using the "Load My Preferences" feature, which is optional; the AI works without your saved preferences. You can delete your data at any time by deleting your account, which removes all stored data including any saved itineraries.

PINYA uses AI models from Anthropic, an AI safety company committed to building safe, steerable AI systems. Key points about Anthropic's practices: API data is not used for model training, Anthropic follows responsible AI development practices, models include safety features to avoid generating harmful content, and Anthropic provides transparency about their model capabilities and limitations.
